If you are experienced in graphics then design your site in photoshop or fireworks and output it. Make a background and apply it to the html and you should be fine. Bird.ie uses flash and CSS which can be more complex. Try http://www.w3schools.com they have very good tutorials for CSS, JavaScript and html.

Good luck
Hi,

Birdie is my website, the front end is developed using HTML / CSS and a bit of Flash on the home page.

I recommend picking up a few books on CSS and Web Design, there are plenty of tutorials on the web but to get a good overview from experienced professionals these books are excellent:

Web Standards Solutions by Dan Cederholm (www.simplebits.com)

Principles of Beautiful Web Design by Jason Beaird

The Zen of CSS Design by Dave Shea

http://www.amazon.com/Zen-CSS-Design-Visual-Enlightenment/dp/0321303474/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8%26amp;s=books%26amp;qid=1203772379%26amp;sr=1-1

These books will get you up and running quickly, and once you have the basics you can pick up loads of tips from the community on sites like alistapart.com. Also, get the Web Developer Toolbar for Firefox, it's great for peeking at other people's css.

Best of luck!
